On uncertain futures and (pre)caution practitioners

Taking a look at the subculture of prepping as a specific form of crisis prevention and perspective for self-empowerment, this work explores the question of what techniques and strategies we use to try countering fears and doubts about the future, taking action for the sake of safety.

Taking matters into your own hands (and homes)

In confrontation with the images, self-images, values and norms propagated there, one finds oneself in the field of tension of modern societies, which on the one hand offer security and freedom, but on the other hand also make one vulnerable and stimulate the question of what constitutes safety in its material and temporal dimensions, to what extent narratives of the future create realities that produce their own aesthetics and what resilience, preparedness and community can mean in this respect.
Reflecting on these moments through creative exploration, among others, a warming power station that brings light into the darkness and a portable water collector have been designed and are now on display at DDW.

HFTB-18Ah

In an endless dance of monotony, yet never quite the same, bubbles gently rise and fall. Portable and robustly designed with a carrying handle, it acts as a tangible antidote to the prevailing mood of crisis, providing soothing warmth and powerful light up to 6 hours.

BPIBR

Intended for immediate use in emergencies, it promises safe, clean water and, based on consensus and compatibility for many, opens up the finite provision towards heaven. So get out of the house and into the world, filling your own supplies on a collecting quest.
