BALK is quite literally more than a lamp as it serves as a shelf too, but most importantly it is a symbol. It shows that beauty can be created from some of the most undervalued elements of our society: waste and unemployment.
BALK is designed by Remko Verhaagen (Blooey), made from waste of the Provincie Zuid-Holland and produced in social co-creation with sheltered metal workshop Wij3.0.
The lamps are hand-crafted out of recycled aluminium giving it a wonderful wabi-sabi te
About Blooey
CREATE BEAUTY DO GOOD
Can design make our world (a little) better? How to create beauty out of waste? What is the link between creativity and personal development? Blooey, the Rotterdam-based design studio founded by Remko Verhaagen, uses the value of design to do good. Our vision is based on three principles: Beautiful design. Sustainable materials. Social process.
