Water scarcity is a pressing issue in many parts of the world. These water shortages are caused partly by climate change in combination with our luxurious Western lifestyle. Since most of our foods are imported overseas and produced in increasingly scarce regions, it's time to raise awareness.

Flip, the Water Counter

Flip, the Water Counter is a tool that measures personal and collective direct water use. It consists of a mini-computer, a waterflow sensor and a LED display. The waterflow sensor measures the amount of water used, which is then shown on the LED Display in liters. The water 'footprint' of luxurious export products like avocado, meat and exotic fruits will also be shown, when a certain amount of litres has been reached. These products are part of our daily food intake and therefore contribute to our indirect water footprint. Installing Flip, the Water Counter on your water tap is an easy way to understand direct and indirect water usage. Gaining insight into this matter is necessary as global water resources are gradually depleted.
