Be Aware

Creating awareness in a lighthearted way.

With this project I wanted to create awareness about what we individually can do to help the climate and the environment. Most environmental messages are quite heavy and can make you feel sad and depressed. My goal was to spread a message in a fun way, so you have something cool to look at, and might learn something about what you can do to help.

Old school horror design.

I found out that movie posters from the last century are very good at telling their message. I was very interested in the old horror movie posters. I used this as a source of inspiration to design my posters. The way text, color and composition was applied taught me a lot and I really enjoyed working on this.

Analog and digital techniques.

I really wanted to work both analog and digital in this project. I wanted to draw the lines with ink, but I wanted to make the colors and texts digital. I have learned that this is quite possible. I drew the lines on an A3 sheet with a dip pen and ink, scanned this and continued digitally. I also first drew and scanned some texts with ecoline, after which I further edited them digitally. This way you still get a unique effect. Digitally I could still easily play with the colors and the placement of the text, this gave me a lot of freedom to achieve the strongest possible result. I chose this method because you can still see the roughness of the ink in the result and those kinds of details are very important to me. That way you also have something to look at when you get closer.
