“Mise en scène” is a new composition of the collections created by Studio Joachim-Morineau. Explore their vision, at the meeting point between traditional crafts and industrial processes.

At the crossroad

After working for four years together, Carla and Jordan decide to show their vision and identity in a new “Mise en scène”. They want to re-introduce and reflect on the relation between the collections Moca, Archetypes, Sunrise “an ode to felt” and more. Shown together, the objects start to respond to each other. Although their materials, processes and aesthetics are different, they meet at the crossroad of crafts and industrial techniques.

Traditional crafts and industrial processes: Learning from the past to think about the future.

Studio Joachim-Morineau explores traditional crafts and past aesthetics to open a dialogue with the industrial processes we use today. By merging and challenging these subjects, their design leads to new surprising outcomes. For example, their first project Moca combines technology and craft with a human touch. The machine drips liquid clay at a certain rhythm to create ceramics with a unique visual language. Moreover, the furniture collection “Archetypes” translates Greco-Roman sculptural languages into a new industrial aesthetic. By using standardized aluminium profiles, they integrate the idea of long-lasting composition and the possibility to engage in a larger production. Sunrise - “An ode to felt making” is their last collaboration with Mehmet, a Turk felt master, to bring ancient Anatolian crafts to a contemporary design scene.

Visual translation

Studio Joachim-Morineau intends to produce a modern language, at the edge of collectible design and functional objects. They believe having influences from the past creates emotional and visual links with the users. By reflecting on their current design practice and studying more crafts and industrial techniques, they will pursue their research for new aesthetics.
