ARTEFACTS by Ralf Gloudemans
ARTEFACTS by Ralf Gloudemans
Cor Unum - Dana Savic
Ralf Gloudemans creates sculptural objects with a digital soul. He sculpts intuitively in virtual space before translating the forms into matter. Digital production, material exploration and traditional craft merge in contemporary artefacts that retain subtle echoes of ornament and architecture.

Clay slumps, dries, deforms, breaks or surprises. These moments give the work its character.

ARTEFACTS emerges from the direct 3D printing of clay. The works are not smoothly reproduced, but built up layer by layer by the clay printer. As a result, each form visibly carries the logic of the printing process: lines, thickening, shifts, tension, gravity and traces of material responding along the way.

Within this series, repetition never equals sameness. Even when the same digital file is used again, no identical copy appears. Clay is a natural material; humidity, pressure, drying time, speed and small disturbances influence the final result each time. Each object therefore becomes unique: related to the rest of the series, but never fully the same.

The works have something of contemporary findings. They seem to come from a process somewhere between digital control and ceramic material behaviour, between machine and chance, between formal intention and deviation.

ARTEFACTS embraces the imperfection of the process. Small errors, instability and variation are not hidden, but instead form the identity of the series. The deviations are not flaws that make the object lesser, but qualities that give each work its own character.

About Ralf Gloudemans

Ralf Gloudemans is a Dutch designer and artist exploring the intersection of digital and physical craft. Forms begin in virtual space and are translated into matter through technology and craftsmanship, resulting in sculptural objects that balance between design, art and function.
