Perspectives on change and innovation
The Design Innovation Sessions bring together design, research, and practice to explore how design-driven approaches can contribute to societal change and innovation. Through keynotes, inspiring projects, and collaborative conversations, we look at how these approaches are being applied to complex challenges, from health and wellbeing to circular economy and sustainable transitions.
Which emerging methods and applications can redefine existing knowledge and practices? And how can design, design research, and innovation contribute to meaningful change? As part of Dutch Design Week’s Mission Days, the Design Innovation Sessions are specially curated for a professional audience who want to be inspired and exchange ideas on real change.
From niche to scale
Circularity in fashion and textiles sounds ambitious, but real change often starts small and local. How can these initiatives grow beyond their niche into an economic system that works at scale? Digitalisation can play a key role: from digital weaving studios to on-demand production in Europe. The challenge is not only to demonstrate the added value, but to make it measurable.
During this session, we explore the opportunities for smaller ecosystems to become breeding grounds for digital innovation. How can digital technologies change the way fashion and textiles are designed and produced? And what does it take to turn promising approaches into scalable processes?
Meet the speakers
The speakers are, amongst others, Dominic Sluiter (co-founder of EnhanceThat) with a keynote on what years of digital change in fashion companies have taught him: what it actually takes, where it worked, and where it failed. He will explore why smaller brands have a unique opportunity to drive change and how digital innovation can contribute to a more future-proof fashion industry. Jirka Rajme, researcher at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, will share insights from the DPP4CD project, exploring Digital Product Passports for circular denim and how digitalisation can help smaller circular ecosystems develop into scalable processes. A third speaker for this session will be announced soon.
The morning is moderated by Linda Vermaat, moderator, social innovation advocate and former director of Innofest. With extensive experience working with designers, entrepreneurs and researchers on innovation and societal transitions, she brings a strong focus on the human side of change and will guide the conversations between speakers and audience.
