A Place to Belong
House is a mobile, inclusive play installation that feels like a place to belong. Visitors are invited to play, explore and connect in an environment that offers space for both movement and rest. Through colour, tactile materials and sensory play elements, the installation creates a welcoming space where children with and without disabilities can play together.
Co-creation
The installation was developed by Studio Kars en Boom and RAUM in close collaboration with children with and without disabilities, parents, and experts in inclusion and sensory development. More than fifty children contributed to the design process, while over 150 children were observed during workshops and inclusive play sessions. Their experiences and ideas form the foundation of a play environment that embraces different ways of playing, moving and experiencing the world.
Impact
House demonstrates how design can contribute to more inclusive public spaces. More than just a playground, the installation invites visitors to rethink accessibility, connection and living together. By bringing together families, designers, policymakers and the wider public, House aims to inspire public spaces where everyone feels welcome and can participate equally.
