A Window Artwork by Johan Moorman at the Van Abbe Café
From 18 October 2025 untill 1 March 2026, artist Johan Moorman will showcase his new work After Flourish on the expansive glass façade of the Van Abbe Café. The piece captures the optimistic and contemplative spirit of Dutch Design Week.
The work features Moorman’s signature use of vibrant colours, playful shapes, and asymmetrical compositions. Within the collage, plants, animals, and buildings appear to interact, reflecting the seasonal change that Dutch Design Week marks, as it begins in autumn. The collage is created using a mix of hand-drawn and digital techniques, displayed on the café’s large windows, connecting the interior to the outside world.
After Flourish addresses the inequalities of our world, where abundance and possibilities coexist alongside the challenges of war and the climate crisis. Moorman’s work invites us to contemplate whether we can shift our perspective and invites us to reflect on the question: can we find happiness with less?
