BOOK SPACE brings Czech book design to DDW De Caai: an inclusive, living reading experience.
BOOK SPACE is an inclusive design space connecting book and furniture design with the universal value of reading in our modern lives. It inspires readers of all ages to immerse themselves in beautiful books, placing Czech book-binding craftsmanship center stage. Created to mark the 60th anniversary of The Most Beautiful Czech Books competition, the travelling installation builds on the Czech passion for reading and underlines the role libraries play in European society. At every stop, BOOK SPACE offers activities: join a workshop, or simply grab a book, relax on a bench or rug, and explore its story (with summaries translated for all). Leave with a bookmark, but let the books stay for others. Curated by Belgian designer Nicole Brock, the installation features a central bookend by Mikolášková & Drobná, shelving by Monotropa, a tufted rug by Masopust, benches by Lexová & Smetana (Polstrin), tables by Plastic Guys, and stools by Space of Space. Conceived by the Czech Centre Brussels and supported by Czech printing companies and public institutions, BOOK SPACE comes with a visual identity by Barbora Kramná.
