Circular Wool – Robotufted Carpet

Circular Wool by Lottozero Studio transforms undervalued European rustic wool—a by-product of meat and milk sheep farming—into a sustainable, circular textile ingredient. Since 2016, Lottozero has pioneered research and innovation with rustic wool, developing expertise in turning this neglected raw material into high-quality products. Visitors will experience a large carpet in natural colour and a brightly coloured series of four smaller modular carpets, crafted through robotic tufting with designer Margaux Minodier (Bruxelles) and manufacturer Casalis (Kortrijk). These carpets show how waste wool can be elevated into fully recyclable, commercially viable products for interiors. The fiber processing supply chain is based in Prato, Italy—a historic textile district—where local washing, carding, and yarn production create a short, transparent, circular chain. The project’s vision is to close the loop on wool waste, reclaiming over 200,000 tons annually across Europe, reducing pollution from illegal disposal, and cutting reliance on imported fine wools with high ecological costs. By formalizing supply chains with breeders and perfecting fiber quality for robotic tufting, Circular Wool exemplifies circular design innovation. Visitors engage with the material’s journey—from raw fleece to finished product—highlighting craftsmanship, technology, and sustainability. The purpose is to show how creativity and industry give new life to a neglected resource, generating economic value for rural communities and inspiring a regenerative textile industry. At Dutch Design Week, Circular Wool proves how design can transform waste into beauty, showing circularity and style go hand in hand. This project pioneers a replicable model for sustainable textile innovation worldwide.
