Dann kam alles anders’ (‘Then Everything Changed’) portrays animals that usually only reach a fraction of their natural life expectancy and often live isolated from the outside world.

Every year, a small number of these farm animals, which are used for human purposes, manage to escape their fate. This work was created at Hof Butenland, a farm that took the bold step of abandoning livestock farming a long time ago and now takes in these very animals to protect them from further exploitation and enable them to live in a manner appropriate to their species.

First and foremost, the work provides insight into the history of the animals and the freedom they have gained. This enables a change of perspective and creates space to question how we treat farm animals today. The aim is to create a connection between humans and animals that provides access to the beauty, value, and individuality of animals.
