These are framed e-ink installations where images appear and fade into one another, like a ghostly memory. Blending craftmanship framing with contemporary technology, it explores perception and interpretation—inviting viewers to experience presence and absence in fixed, yet fleeting, objects.

Framed Phantoms: E-ink fleeting imagery

Eidolon I + II are artworks that merges traditional framing skill with contemporary technology. High-resolution e-ink displays are mounted inside classic passepartout and wooden frames, creating something in-between the tactility of objects and the shifting of modern digital media. Images appear and change with the slow cadence that the screens refresh capabilities demand, giving the pieces both presence and absence at once.

Viewers are invited into a space where these shifting images appear like phantoms, echoing each other and the place they were taken. The piece rewards slow looking: each transition unfolds visibly, so that the act of watching becomes deliberate.

The displays are programmed to present curated sequences of photographs, all from Eindhoven during DDW 2024, and the presentation turns familiar objects and places into evolving items. The photos themselves were taken using a Nikon FM2 camera and Fujifilm Velvia 100 slide film, chosen for the lush vibrance this method offers. The frames were made from reclaimed oak (I) and beech (II) wood, and are covered by UV70 antiglare art glass.
