Evolving Recovery is a personal design project by Aaron Preyer who experienced a long recovery from a concussion and skull fracture. Created to offer hope and support through a slowly changing wall piece, he visualizes the quiet, gradual, and uncertain process of healing.

The concept

Evolving Recovery emerged from a personal experience. After a long recovery from a concussion and skull fracture, I felt the need to create something that could offer hope and support during times when uncertainty and hopelessness take hold something I would have appreciated myself and that could help others with similar experiences.

The large wall piece gently reminds you that progress happens every day, even when you don’t notice it. It reflects the quiet nature of recovery and the time it demands. At first glance, it appears as a misty white canvas. After several days of installation, faint lines begin to emerge. Over weeks and months, these slowly grow and connect, symbolizing the internal process of healing and slowly resuming daily life. Some lines grow steadily until they reach their full potential, representing the limits of what can be regained. Others rise and fall, embodying the setbacks that are part of recovery. In time, a web of growth and new connections becomes visible.
