In Collaboration with the Material
‘Nestend’ is an evolving series of objects that explores how natural principles can be translated into a personal way of making. By exploring the material and the making process, the artist seeks a direct, attentive way of working in which the hand and the material together shape what takes form. The traces of these actions remain visible and become part of the work. From this process, sculptural forms emerge in which growth, rhythm, time, change, and layering come together.
Getting to Know a Material
Working with paper pulp requires taking a fresh look at the materials and making processes that have become second nature with more established materials. Because Djenti Knippels does not yet have a clearly defined way of working with paper pulp, there is room to discover through the making process how form, material, and process relate to one another.
