The exhibition HOME IS**** is the result of the VISUAL STORYTELLERS project, a six-month talent development program by QISSA. The program is intended for those who want to develop their own sound and are looking for support to professionalize within their discipline.

identity and belonging

HOME IS**** invites you to delve into the multifaceted idea of what home is. From the physical aspects of a house and its interior to the intangible elements of feelings, memories and cultural heritage, HOME IS**** touches on a wide range of topics. It can be (a place for) grief, rituals or religion, and it is interwoven with ideas of gender, community and personal identity. Through installations, photography, illustrations and objects, the artists in this exhibition investigate how the home evolves over time, space and growth. Each of them presents their own project that explores the concept of home. It goes beyond just a physical space with a roof over your head; it encompasses emotions, identity and belonging.

QISSA not only gives new makers a kickstart, but also offers them an artistic community.

As a safe haven and creative breeding ground, we create space for the development of new sounds and support makers to show innovative work in the field of design, art and digital culture.

QISSA is a mentor, community and home for talent.

As a continuation of their research into grief, Hooi-Ying Zhang builds on their hypothesis what if, if something or someone passes or changes, it does not disappear but moves up a dimension in this research. They explore how their own hypothesis can create expansive ways of looking at grief. Artist Cenk Gungor blends his own experience as a foreigner with sharp, humorous observations. He captures everyday moments that are normal for locals but bizarre for outsiders, applying traditional animation techniques in his work. Halima Shaaban aka Artificihally is a visual artist who mainly makes digital art about healing the inner child, womanhood, escapism and the power of aesthetics. She shows the cycle of creating a home for oneself through three steps. In her work, mirrors are placed central to reflect the many meanings and mechanisms between your home and your identity.

A house, a home, is not physical, but primarily mental. Home is the feeling that there is space for your feelings. It goes beyond just a physical space with a roof over your head; it encompasses emotions, identity and belonging.
