Printing Wood
At DENKSTATT Erzgebirge, in collaboration with the Faculty of Forest Sciences at TU Dresden, we connect local craft culture with design-driven innovation. With our project Sawdust in 3D Printing, we transform wood waste – especially sawdust from regional craftspeople – into a sustainable material for additive manufacturing. Rooted in the Ore Mountains, the project unfolds in workshops with artisans, where we test applications, create prototypes, and discuss how traditional knowledge and digital production can meaningfully interact. The aim is to combine technological development with regional craftsmanship, fostering sustainable material innovation. At Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, we will present our results and continue the project on-site. By collaborating with Dutch designers, students, and local makers – ideally using wood waste from Eindhoven, we seek to expand our experiments and explore how local resources, crafts, and digital tools can come together in an international context.
