“Waiting for the Bus” transforms the typically anonymous, makeshift, and uncomfortable environment of temporary bus stops into a welcoming and characterful place to wait. Although waiting is a regular part of everyday life and significantly affects our well-being, public waiting areas often receive little design attention.
Three objects, inspired by elements of public space, translate typical waiting gestures into pieces of furniture. They extend the bus stop sign and create space for sitting, resting, and social interaction. Depending on the spatial requirements, the modules can be flexibly arranged and curated.
The tubular steel structures can be easily detached from their base plates, allowing for quick assembly and disassembly, as well as space-efficient transport. The project gives this temporary space a distinct identity and creates an inviting environment that encourages people to linger.
