Whispers of Touch is an interactive textile installation that responds to the presence of its admirer. As someone approaches, the piece gently activate, shifting, lighting up, or softly vibrating, transforming the act of viewing into a sensory, two-way dialogue.
The work explores the emotional dimension of proximity. Using integrated soft sensors and microcontrollers, it detects distance and translates it into subtle physical reactions. The textile becomes more than surface, it becomes a presence that acknowledges yours.
Inspired by fleeting gestures of closeness, brushing past a sleeve, leaning in for a whisper, the piece invites intimacy and slowness. It asks: What if textiles could speak not in words, but in movement and sensation?
Whispers of Touch sits at the intersection of craft and technology, combining traditional textile techniques such as embroidery, embellishment with embedded interactivity and technology such as light and laser cutting. It reflects on how we connect in an increasingly digitized world, offering a moment of quiet reflection through poetic, physical interaction.
