Cheongsanbyeolgok ( The Blue Mountain)
Cheongsanbyeolgok ( The Blue Mountain)
by Minjeong Park
For those seeking a utopia, this ceramic art piece turns living spaces into a sanctuary, reinterpreting an 800-year-old Korean song and translating its poetic vision into tactile porcelain for a peaceful escape.

Singing Porcelain

This project is deeply rooted in 'Cheongsanbyeolgok', a legendary Goryeo-era (12th–13th century) Korean song that captures the ultimate human desire for escape. Written during a time of social chaos, the song tells the story of people seeking refuge in an imagined paradise called 'Cheongsan' (The Blue Mountain). Far more than a physical landscape, Cheongsan represents a utopian sanctuary free from worldly suffering. Living in today's overwhelming and chaotic world, we share this same timeless yearning. The project translates this 800-year-old poetic vision into a physical reality, building a utopian landscape out of tactile porcelain. By bridging and reinterpreting cultural heritage through contemporary design, the work transmutes the heavy psychological weight of modern life into a comforting sanctuary. It demonstrates how ancient texts can be translated into a universal design language, offering audiences a moment of contemplative escape.
