Human Evolution
For billion of years, the human body has undergone a complex evolution, adapted to a natural environment in which food was scarce and flavors unpredictable. Now, with these same evolved bodies, we inhabit a radically different food landscape than before. The industrial revolution and the introduction of ultra-processed foods have created an environment in which food is abundantly available and designed to taste the same at all times. This abundance not only results in excessive calorie intake, but also in a shortage of essential micronutrients in our diet. We eat more than ever, but are in fact malnourished.
Leaf it to Nature
In order for our bodies to make healthy food choices and obtain the essential nutrients we need, it is important that our food retains its natural origins. But do we dare to give control over our taste back to nature? By letting nature directly control the tea’s taste, the installation challenges us to reflect on our taste preferences and consumption- and production behavior. Because if we want to restore a healthy relationship with food, we must learn to appreciate the beauty and value in the natural imperfections and variations nature offers us.
