Politics. The work is a wall that does not divide, but around which one can walk.
On the contrary, it is inspired by the cliffs along the seashore — places where animals can live, plants can grow, and which possess beautiful thermal and acoustic properties.
Mother Goddess cultures. Boon’s work is strongly informed by pre-patriarchal society systems.
The internal aqueduct in ‘Wall’ is inspired by subterranean waters and caves by the sea, that are ancient Mother Goddess symbols. This ‘aqueduct’ creates subtle light and sound effects, activating the senses.
Community. The piece is designed to be part of and function as part of a social community.
— whether that is a care home, an indoor square in a communal facility, or another shared space. It can literally serve as a ‘touchstone’ — something to physically engage with in order to feel at home — or as an object that mesmerizes through its color, form, and texture. The sound and the shimmering internal light of the water add a playful and dreamlike quality to the experience. Boon strongly hopes that during DDW2025, a community will find ‘Wall’ to adopt it into their midst where it can provide a moments of calmness, playfulness and connection.
