A social design practice that strengthens communities
In this interactive workshop, we dive into the social design practice of T-HUIS – a learning and making space in Eindhoven where people have been collaborating for nearly 20 years to create sustainable change. Together with residents, children, students, and professionals, the neighborhood is strengthened from within through projects that enhance social cohesion, resilience, and ownership.
Using six key elements, we unpack what makes this place so special. Participants are introduced to T-HUIS’s unique approach, rooted in design thinking and community development. Themes include the importance of a physical space, working with momentum, the role of key stakeholders, multidisciplinary collaboration, autonomy, and leveraging students as drivers of innovation.
You will translate T+HUIS’s six key elements to your own context and reflect on what is needed to build a sustainable learning and living community. The workshop is aimed at designers, neighborhood professionals, policymakers, students, researchers, and social entrepreneurs. You will leave with practical tools, inspiration from a unique real-world example, and insights into strengthening neighborhoods.
