The Netherlands Court of Audit believes it’s important to know what the effects of public money and government policies are on society. What ideas do people have and what do people expect from the Court? To answer these questions, the Court uses a design approach. Because design is about people.

Conversation

At the DDW we will present projects that illustrate our conversation with society and that were made using a design approach. We will engage visitors in a dialogue. We take a variety of approaches to keep in touch with society. The signals we receive present a clear picture of people’s needs. This helps to select audit topics and amplify the impact of our work. In this way we improve the operation and performance of central government and its associated bodies.

Our Money Explained

You pay taxes on your income and everything you buy. Therefore, you have a right to expect your taxes to be spent wisely. Our web app, Our Money Explained, clearly and conveniently explains how the money is spent, for the benefit of everyone in the Netherlands.
Check out the web app on your mobile device (onsgeldontcijferd.rekenkamer.nl) and during the DDW.

The Accountability Desk

The Court of Audit decides by itself which topics it examines. But its auditors need to know what’s important to the people of the Netherlands. That’s why we created the Accountability Desk. A desk where everyone can take a seat for a good talk and give shape to our audit selection.

For over 200 years, the Court of Audit has been examining whether central government spends money and implements policy as intended. Our statutory task is to audit central government’s revenues and expenditures. We report our findings to parliament once a year on Accountability Day (the third Wednesday in May). We also issue separate reports to parliament on individual audits to help members of parliament assess if the money is spent well and if a minister’s policies are effective.
