How do you show what inclusion means? How do you make clear that it starts with listening? With support from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and Dutch Design Foundation, HandicapNL and Buurtvrij for Life created the Sitdown Desk, a table where you pay with time.

Visitors sit down for a talk with someone who has lived through it. No money, but minutes are the price. You can choose from three options: a question that makes you think, a personal story, or simple advice on how to make something more accessible. At the end, you get a stamp as a reminder of the meeting.

The Sitdown Desk builds on the Sitdown Café, an activity by Buurtvrij for Life where equality and connection come first. The project shows that an inclusive society begins with listening, sharing, and joining in.

HandicapNL believes everyone should be able to participate. Yet many people with disabilities face daily barriers. That’s why HandicapNL invests in projects that strengthen confidence, connection, and opportunities - building a future where inclusion is natural.
