Textile designer and maker Amy Tidmarsh presents bold, graphic textiles exploring the translation of woven structures into patchwork fabrics. Large-scale fabric pieces celebrate the visual impact of textiles, communicated through colour, stripe, and overlapping pattern.

Weave Meets Patchwork

By combining the principles of weave with the constraints of patchwork, new surfaces and patterns emerge. Colour mixing through layers of different opacities of fabric invites viewers to see how pattern and colour can engage with their surroundings. Through the construction of technical seams, the overlapping graphic qualities of weaving structures and patchwork blocks are explored.

Micro to Macro

The project elevates our connection to textile process, magnifying the micro details of woven fabric to a humanscale. From intricate weaving diagrams to precise strip-piecing, simple textile components are celebrated through an understanding of colour and its relationship to light, space, and movement. Artistic expression meets design research, through an engaging visual display.

Amy Tidmarsh is a textile designer and maker, disrupting pattern and colour through process. She is excited by research and development, mirrored in the experimental and playful work she makes. Patchwork is her methodology for making: taking apart and re-piecing through colourful fabric collages and performative pieces to explore fundamental principles of textiles.
