Combining processes and integrating pattern
This project considers the application of colour and stripe within textiles for the lived environment. Referencing structures found in curtains, blinds, stained glass and room dividers, Amy and Jipke explore the layering of graphic stripes and translucencies of pattern and colour developed through an experimental and hands-on approach to textile thinking and making. Referencing craft and textile techniques grounded in patchwork and woven structures, this project integrates shape, pattern and overlapping transparencies of colour into spaces.
Creating space for colour
The project has a strong visual language; colour is a primary component, indicating the impact of bold yet nuanced colour combinations within space, celebrating a key skill of Amy’s studio practice. Suspended textiles allow for light to pass through multiple layers, creating a unique experience when walking around the space, and reflecting the ever-changing quality of natural light.
A celebration of light and colour
The purpose of this collection of designs is twofold; as bespoke functional textile pieces available for commission, and as a collaboration opportunity, for larger design studios to consider how colour and light can be explored within the development of their textile products. A core value lies in the celebration and understanding of colour and relationship to light, space, and material.
