Dutch Civilian Action is an initiative founded in 2022 in the Netherlands to support civilians living close to the frontline in Ukraine.
Artist Alexandre Henry joined a couple of their missions. Moved by the courage of people who chose to stay in their homes despite the war and bombings, Alexandre began transforming everyday objects like chairs, doors, and window frames by repairing them with materials sourced from Russian missiles and shell casings.
Light into Darkness is an exhibition of sculptures that both reveal the harsh reality of war and embody resilience and renewal. What is used to destroy can also be used to rebuild, just as families must rebuild their lives after losing most of what they once knew.
