Making with leftovers
'Make the best you can (with what you have)' is a parametric building method designed make furniture from leftovers without cutting any material or producing new waste. The process relies on a set of simple parameters that dictate how irregular leftovers can be joined together.
Because the materials are used exactly as found, the assembly is fast and flexible. You don't need a fully equipped workshop or advanced carpentry skills; you just join the pieces using whatever basic tools you have lying around, whether that's screws, nails, or a nail gun.
To document and share this method, I translated it into a Grasshopper script. The script takes the sizes of whatever random pieces you have and makes a simple manual showing you how to put them together. My ultimate goal is to publish an open-source manual for this system, lowering the barriers to making and encouraging people to build locally from their own surroundings.
